Kus Kari Gongul (A song for the vanishing fields) is a 56-minute documentary exploring the shifting terrain of contemporary Kashmir. Through farmer testimonies and expert insights, the film tracks how massive infrastructure projects like the Srinagar Semi Ring Road fragment ancestral orchards and paddy fields. It portrays a landscape where land is acquired or restricted, moving beyond simple agriculture into a complex web of state control.
This transformation triggers a deeper ecological crisis as mineral extraction from karewa plateaus destabilises irrigation and worsens the effects of retreating glaciers. The film centers on the human cost of this expansion, following shepherds and farmers as their grazing routes and shrinking plots are converted into industrial corridors. It serves as a stark record of a community witnessing the slow disappearance of their traditional way of life.
